I didn't write this week because...

Last meeting, the Moxie group made a pact: write 2-3 pages per day, and post to our list how much we have gotten done.  The writing has to be on our work in progress (WIP).  We can post how much we have written on other stuff, but only the WIP writing counts.

So on that following Monday, I had a bunch of stuff to do in the morning so I couldn't sit down and write like I normally do.  When I came home in early afternoon, I started laundry.  About midway through the first load, the dryer started making a bad sound.  I stopped it and the sound stopped.  When I tried to restart it, the switch made the same noise, like it didn't have enough juice to turn the dryer on.  Dead dryer, with a not-dry load in it, and a very wet load in the washer to follow the first, and yet another load on the floor, waiting.  Since both machines are over 20, and the repairman I called was concerned about being able to find parts, The Man told me to find a new set.

Woot!  The afternoon/early evening was spent looking for new machines.  No dice.  Tuesday, I spend some more time looking for new machines, and by afternoon, I had some purchased for delivery on Friday.  Lowe's could have delivered next-day, however, there was another project to do prior to delivery: fix the laundry room floor.

When we moved in, the linoleum in the laundry room was bright and shiny like the rest of the house.  However, the old washer and dryer had metal, hexagonal feet.  Said feet ripped the linoleum.  We've dealt with an ugly floor for the last eight years.  Since we were going to be replacing the old machines with new, we decided to take the opportunity to replace the floor, too.  Great plan!  Yet another trip to Lowe's--my third on Tuesday--and I had what we needed to do the project on Wednesday.

Wednesday early afternoon, I prep the floor by laying a skimcoat to even it out--I manage to get some on the walls, me, and the carpet, and had to make another trip to Lowe's to purchase more of the skimcoat to finish the job.  It looked good...until it dried and I found all the lumps and ridges.  *sigh*  I'd picked out self-adhesive vinyl tiles.  Tiles looked like flagstone, and we didn't have to deal with glue or grout.  We lay those down, and have to cut eleven tiles to go around the wall...that goes very well.  Then came the vinyl molding we decided to use rather than the wood molding from the original design.  Discovered that we should have allowed the vinyl molding to lay flat for a day prior to applying it to the walls.  Thursday, we put in the molding, and clean up the mess.  And it was a mess.

Machines were delivered Friday morning.  Yay!  I have new machines, and a new floor in the laundry room.  This makes me happy.  However, over the course of the week, I was only able to write three or four pages, most of which was replotting for the next four chapters.  Actual story-writing was two or three pages.  I am still behind the curve.  I REALLY need to get busy.

But, to complicate matters, this past weekend was my 20yr high school reunion.  Friday was a pre-party held at Angell's Bar & Grill in downtown, owned by one of the alums.  Good times, there.  Saturday was the school tour, picnic, and banquet/dance party.  More good times and more reconnections with people I didn't realize I'd missed.  I think I averaged four hours of sleep per night.  Sunday was a complete loss.  I had a wonderful weekend.  Must have, because my feet and ankles still hurt.

Good times.  Good times.  But I didn't write a word all weekend.  Oh well.  I had fun, though.
